Designed as a drop-in replacement of a conventional distribution transformer, our Smart Tx is capable of dynamic autonomous voltage regulation and power factor optimisation. Tailored for grid edge applications, the Smart Tx is a cost effect novel transformer combined with power electronics, state-of-the-art autonomy and on-board analytics. It can be deployed within existing substations and pole-mounted locations with no change in the existing footprint.
The ability to stabilise voltage allows for the penetration of distributed energy resources to be maximised. When acting individually, the Amp X Smart Tx can resolve local grid constraints. When operating as part of a fleet, our Smart Tx can contribute to network stability by providing frequency control at inertial timescales through power flow modulation.
Our Smart Tx brings a data-rich control capability to the edge of the distribution network thanks to its high frequency sensors which are combined with onboard processing. This way, our Smart Tx is able to contribute significantly to increased visibility of supply and demand behaviour on low voltage networks.
A first step towards a zero-carbon grid
Our transactive-ready Virtual Power Plant (VPP) aggregates the flexibility, monitors the status and optimises the dispatch of a multitude of assets from community-scale to utility-scale ones, all in real-time. By emulating the behaviour of traditional power plants, groups of decentralised assets can participate in grid services, which would otherwise be impossible for them individually.
Asset managers and operators have access to a control center user interface from which they can see in real-time the decisions being made on their behalf, and can drop to SCADA-level visibility and manual control if they wish to.
Our advanced analytics engine monitors, alerts and reports every aspect of connected assets in real-time. Powered by Artificial Intelligence and state-of-the-art Machine Learning technologies, our VPP is capable of Operations and Maintenance improvement through life tracking which results in increased profitability of assets, and capex/opex savings.
Demand-side flexibility at a massive scale
Our transactive-ready Demand-Side Management (DSM) solution uses behind-the-meter autonomy, linked with ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) technologies to allow millions of devices, such as rooftop PVs, home batteries, EV chargers, HVAC, pool pumps, washing machines and tumble-dryers to be managed efficiently and transparently to the user, and to provide flexibility to the grid.
Cutting-edge autonomy is a key discriminator at the core of our DSM solution, allowing the software to work with, rather than for, the user. Our behind-the-meter (BTM) box learns the behaviour of connected devices and the preferences of the user, and over time provides higher energy savings and more flexibility with little or no input from the user.
Our DSM features a control centre user interface for system operators, and an advanced app/web interface for end-users. A digital assistant engages in a dialogue with the end-user about priorities and preferences when there is an important issue to be raised or recommendation to be given.
The Amp X DSM solution can contribute to the balancing of the power system in the increasing presence of volatile generation from renewable sources. It will be especially effective with the increasing penetration of EVs and EV charging stations.
